Joellen Burton has been successfully training dogs for 45 years. She started at a young age training the family terrier mix and poodles to sit at a table and eat lunch with her. Her interest and need to understand behavior was apparent from an early age, always trying to see things from the dog's point of view.
Her real education began at the age of 12 when her 18 month old Irish Setter exhibited signs of being extremely dog aggressive. By using her common sense approach, obedience training, and proper management, she helped her dog to live a happy and full life to the age of 14.

Joellen trained her next two dogs for competition obedience and Animal Assisted Therapy work. Her Doberman achieved her CDX level of training. Her Border Collie achieved her UD level, while also becoming the first dog ever allowed in Sonoma Valley Hospital as a therapy dog.

Most recently, Joellen spent 5 years, from 2000 - 2005, working in the nationally acclaimed Marin Humane Society's Behavior and Training Department. She worked as a trainer, instructor, and behavior consultant. She taught classes for puppies through advanced levels, including Agility and Animal Assisted Therapy. She did behavior consultations with issues from puppy challenges through severe aggression. She also did temperament evaluations on hundreds of shelter dogs. In addition, Joellen took home and fostered puppies and young dogs deemed unadoptable due to behavior issues who, when returned, went on to be adopted into loving homes. In 2002 she graduated from the Marin Humane Society's Canine Academy 1 and 2, at the top of her class.

Joellen has worked with and trained many breeds, large and small, including; Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Poodles, Salukis, terriers, Bouvier De Floundres, Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Pit Bulls, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Huskies, Catahoulas, Cattle Dogs, Chihuahuas, and many small and toy breeds.

She currently works at a holistic veterinary office where she is expanding her knowledge in the use of alternative therapies.

Joellen continues to expand her knowledge by attending workshops and seminars. She has been a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers since 2003. Joellen is currently active with her dogs in herding, scent work, and agility.
